So it's possible that Stephen from Stony Stratford might be the correct one.

In case he is, I'll post some more.

I think this is Stephen's marriage to Elizabeth:

Elizabeth Simpson
mentioned in the record of Stephen Anderson and Elizabeth Simpson
Name Stephen Anderson
Spouse's Name Elizabeth Simpson
Event Date 27 Dec 1840
Event Place Kingston-Upon-Hull, York, England
Father's Name Thomas Anderson
Spouse's Father's Name William Hannah
Marital Status Widowed
Spouse's Marital Status Widowed

This could perhaps be the birth of the Elizabeth's daughter Eliza, listed in 1841 census as "not born in county":

Eliza Hey Simpson
England Births and Christenings
Name Eliza Hey Simpson
Gender Female
Christening Date 05 Jun 1831
Christening Date (Original) 05 JUN 1831
Christening Place SELBY,YORK,ENGLAND
Father's Name Henry Simpson
Mother's Name Elizabeth

I know that John and Emma (listed in 1851 census) have mms Simpson even though Elizabeth's maiden surname appears to have been Hannah.

I don't see the birth of Clara or Harriott, but this looks like Clara's marriage:

Marriages Mar 1860 (>99%)
Devonshire George Northampton 3b 115
Simpson Clara Northampton 3b 115

Clara in 1861:

Clara Devonshire
in the 1861 England Census
Name: Clara Devonshire
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: 1834
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: George Devonshire
Gender: Female
Where born: Hull, Yorkshire, England <<<<<<<<<<
Civil Parish: Northampton St Andrew
Ecclesiastical parish: St Andrew
Town: Northampton
County/Island: Northamptonshire
Country: England
Registration district: Northampton
Sub-registration district: St Giles
ED, institution, or vessel: 26
Neighbors:
Household schedule number: 35
Piece: 937
Folio: 100
Page Number: 6
Household Members:
Name Age
George Devonshire 31
Clara Devonshire 27

(Address: 19 Lower Grafton Street )

They were still living at that address until at least 1891, with several children.
By 1911 Clara was widowed and living with son William (a clicker, like his stepfather Stephen) at 19 Arundel Street.
She died in Northampton in 1914.

Thank you Argyllgran and Sylvain for the info.
I did look in my records yesterday to see where I got 1790 from and couldn't find any notes.
I did wonder if at sometime I had seen the baptism and assumed the year from that.
It is also possible that I got the info. from a relative, I'm just not sure .

Yes, I know, Sylvia.

Carole, why do you think he was born c1790?
His 1818 marriage record gives no age. Have you found a date somewhere else?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 27 Sep 2018 00:33

Death in 1883 with age (??accurate or estimated) of 86 = birth year of ca 1797.

Which means he would have been about 14/15 if that is his baptism in 1812, and about 21 when he married Mary in 1818.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Sep 2018 00:04

At the time of Sarah Ann's baptism in 1824, Stephen was a cordwainer.

I don't know if this is the same Stephen below - but will post it in case.
Maybe Stephen and Mary separated around the time of Sarah Ann's birth:

In 1826, a shoemaker named Stephen Anderson lived in Wellington Street in Northampton, with a Thomas Anderson, also a shoemaker.

Stephen Anderson
in the UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893
Name: Stephen Anderson
Poll Year: 1826
Parish or Rectory: Northampton

Stephen was still there in Wellington Street in 1837.

Stephen Anderson married Sarah Fox in 1824:

Marriage Place: Northampton, All Saints, Northamptonshire, England
Register Type: Parish Registers

They had daughters Ann and Elizabeth, born Wellington Street, Northampton.

birth:
14 November 1836

By 1841 Stephen was married to an Elizabeth.

And in 1851 -
John and Emma's mms was Simpson.

Stephen's a clicker.

Boot and shoe clicker - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_and_shoe_clicker
A boot and shoe clicker is the person who cuts the uppers for boots or shoes from a skin of leather or piece of man-made material (usually from a bulk roll). This includes all components of the upper, including linings, facings, stiffeners, reinforcements for eyelets and zip-protectors.

This is the nearest birth I can find for Stephen - but only if "birth date" means "christening date", and he was about 14 when christened:

Stephen Anderson
England Births and Christenings
Name Stephen Anderson
Residence Place Stony Stratford, Buckingham, England
Gender Male
Birthplace Stony Stratford, Buckingham, England

Possible death of wife Sarah:

Stephen and Elizabeth are in all censuses up to their deaths:

Thanks Erica

That's the correct family.
I have tracked the descendants but still can't find Stephen's death.
I've even checked Ellis Island site just in case he left the family.

Maybe Stephen didn't die and Mary just said she was a widow. She wouldn't be the first bigamist in this family but then surely her daughters would know.

It does look likely that that is the correct baptism.
I have looked 1824-29 for a death but haven't found anything.
Thanks for looking.
