Looking at what Ancestry says about Baughan as a family name:

"The most Baughan families were found in the UK in 1891. In 1891 there were 116 Baughan families living in Oxfordshire. This was about 26% of all the recorded Baughan's in the UK. Oxfordshire had the highest population of Baughan families in 1891."

and

"In 1881, the most common Baughan occupation in the UK was Agricultural Labourer. 6% of Baughan's were Agricultural Labourers. Agricultural Labourer, Carpenter and Wheelwright were the top 3 reported jobs worked by Baughan. A less common occupation for the Baughan family was Baker."

I'm wondering if Elizabeth Hodgson, Susannah C Baughan, and Charlotte Baughan are all the same woman going by different forenames.

In 1851 Elizabeth is born c1816 at Walthamstow, Essex.

Name: Elizabeth Baughan
Age: 35
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Henry Baughan
Gender: Female
Where born: Walthamstow, Essex, England<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Civil Parish: St George Hanover Square
Phillimore Ecclesiastical Parish Maps:
View related Ecclesiastical Parish
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England

(Incidently her widowed father William H. Hodgson is also one of several families residing at 30 Grosvenor Mews. He is aged 71, and born Enfield, Middlesex, a master wheelwright.

he dies a couple of years after the census:

HODGSON, WILLIAM HOWARD 73
GRO Reference: 1853 M Quarter in SAINT GEORGE HANOVER SQUARE Volume 01A Page 123

and his baptism?

Name: Wm Howard Hodgson
Gender: Male
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 26 Jan 1780
Baptism Place: St Andrew, Enfield, Middlesex, England
Father: John Hodgson
Mother: Sarah Hodgson )

Maddie has Charlotte Baughan on the 1871 census as born c1815 Walthamstow, Essex, and in 1871 Susannah C is also born c1816, Essex.

Name: Susannah C Banghen
[Susannah C Bangham]
[Susannah C Baughan]
Age: 55
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Henry Banghen
Gender: Female
Where born: Essex, England<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Civil Parish: St George Hanover Square
Town: London
County/Island: London
Country: England
Registration district: St George Hanover Square
Sub-registration district: Hanover Square

I definitely think Susannah C Baughan and Charlotte Baughan are the same woman, as I intimated previously, but now I think that woman is also the 'Elizabeth' that Henry married in 1838.

Kucinta Report 5 Oct 2018 16:40

Not sure if it's been posted or not, but in the 1841 census, Elizabeth Baughan and firstborn daur Emma are staying with her parents William and Elizabeth Hodgson at
Grosvenor Mews.

1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census

Grosvenor Mews, St George Hanover Square, London & Middlesex, England

William Hodgson Male 60 1781 -
Elizabeth Hodgson Female 45 1796 -
Sophia Hodgson Female 25 1816 -
William Hodgson Male 15 1826 -
Jane Jones Female 14 1827 Middlesex, England
Elizabeth Baughan Female 25 1816 -
Emma Baughan Female 2 1839 Middlesex, England

there are various others also listed, but no sure if they are same household.

EDIT Sophia Hodgson may be the witness at Elizabeth's 1838 wedding?

Kucinta Report 5 Oct 2018 16:31

Incidently the probate for Henry mentioned earlier shows the sole executrix to be
Elizabeth Hodgson, spinster of 24 Bourdon street (also the abode and place of Death for Henry) who proved the will.

So no obvious clues there about any further wives.

You could buy a copy of the will for £10...?

Looks good Erika, and that fact that father Henry is a wheelwright helps confirm the likeliness the 1831 marriage is correct.

Susannah C Baughan and Charlotte Baughan might be one and the same if 'C' stood for Charlotte and she was sometimes known by her middle name?

No joy on remarriages though.

Out of area, but could this possibly be the first wife's death?

The 1838 marriage:

Name: Henry Baughan
Gender: Male
Record Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 27 Mar 1838
Marriage Place: St Andrew Holborn, City of London, England
Father: Thomas Baughan
Spouse: Elizabeth Hodgson
Register Type: Parish Register

Henry is already a widower, a coach wheelwright, of full age, of 30 Grosvenor Mews, father Thomas Baughan, also a coach wheelwright.

Elizabeth is a spinster of full age, address same as her groom, father William Howard Hodgson is a wheelwright.

Witnesses James Hodgson and Sophia ? [possibly also Hodgson]

Interesting.....could this be the first marriage, to a relative, or even sister, of his second wife? This would actually have been illegal in 1838, to marry your deceased wife's sister....

Name: Henry Baughan
Gender: Male
Record Type: Banns (Bann)
Marriage Banns Date: 5 Jul 1831
Marriage Banns Place: St Andrew Holborn, City of London, England
Spouse: Sarah Hodgson
Register Type: Parish Register

Too early for details of father's names or occupations. Same place of marriage as in 1838 .

Witnesses Samuel Randall and Elizth Hodgson.

I'm a little confused by Henry's wives. He marries Elizabeth Hodgson in 1838 and she is clearly the mother of his children but who are Charlotte Baughan (b Walthamstow 1815) in the 1861 census and Susannah E Baughan (1816 Essex) in the 1871 census. I can't find the relevant deaths or marriages.
