that's why I'm wondering if she invented a father!

There is an Ann Gribble on the 1841 with son John Andrew and daughter Mary Ann, but checking their baptisms, the father's name was John

It is possible that father died young, or left the family, and Mary Ann only thought he was called Charles or her grandfather was called Charles ........... we all know those stories!!!!

However, as I posted, it does seem that there was quite a large family of Gribbles working as Blacksmiths in Devon over the relevant period.

Did you check those links I gave you??????

The following site can be very useful when looking for blacksmiths

http://blacksmiths.mygenwebs.com

It seems that there were several blacksmiths named Gribble in Devon

http://blacksmiths.mygenwebs.com/devonag-1.php#G

But I don't see one called Charles.

Could Mary Ann have invented a father???
