Major Gibson must have taken his family Wife and children to France later in 1851 as the record I have with the death is in December that year. It seems from his age that he may have retired.(his age seems to fluctuate)

Had a look at my records and I think the death was in Boulogne sur Mer not Calais and that was where he was working.

Sonya Report 11 Nov 2018 12:40

No Death certificate, just a report by the police after interviwing the men who found him dead.

Alfred was employed as a civilian...was down as a commission agent and then as domestic.

Thanks..seems an important soldier..wonder why they were in Calais. I think there was some Napoleonic coup at the time. Perhaps my relative got involved in something. Ill never know.

My G Grandfather Alfred Greenhill was killed in suspicious circumstances while in the employ of Major Gibson in Calais. There was also employed a Jane Roberts who was pregnant by Alfred.(assumed married as Alfred was a widower) His body was found by friends and I cannot ascertain why he was killed.
