Hi all,
Not sure if you can help me with this chap -

Robert Taylor born about 1854.
Married 26/07/1876 to Margaret Gillspie in Middlesbrough and his dad is listed as William.
Census Returns have him born around 1854/1855 in Leith Scotland - however on searching Scotlands People I can find no birth that looks like a possibility?

Does anybody have any ideas?

Scottish bmds registration didn’t start till 1855 so he was probably not registered if he was born before then

Nothing further by the looks of it on family search. Would this now become a dead end or are their any other ideas of places to look in Scotland.

Presume he isn’t showing on Scottish census before he was in Middlesbrough

Ok so Just did a bit of research on Leith lack of knowledge of the geography of Scotland is a real hindrance) It says Leith was part of Midlothian. If I search on here for this I get one result from the 1861 Census transcription of household says - With a William as the farther Occupation Labourer. So a possibility?

It probably won't give you details of their parents, (ie - probably nothing more than on the FamilySearch result posted above by Maddie ) as a marriage cert from 1855 onwards would do, but you never know.

I can see in the 1851 census posted someone called Ann Henderson. Robert Marries a Margaret Gillespie and I have just been looking for a birth for her and found this one with MMN Henderson. Wonder if there is a connection or coincidence.
