Could anyone please help me with this Henry Highwood, he has completely got me confused. In the 1841,51,and 71 census he is down as Henry but in the 1871 census listed as John Highwood (unable to read his occupation.) he was a Boarder with his children in Rotherhithe. Head of household a William Robson b1835 Scotland.. I have finally established that William Robson an Inspector of Police must be this John or Henry’s step son. but in the 1841 William was listed as Highwood b1835 Scotland his mother Margaret Robson didn’t marry until 1841 St George in the East. My problem is I am unable to find a death for Henry Highwood in the London area, found one in 1868 Rotherhithe where the Henry I am looking for lived in 1861 but can’t be him because this Henry who called himself John was still alive living with his children with this William Robso and family. Unable to find John or Henry Highwood born approx 1816 Romney or New Romney Kent , death to prove it was him. |

On the 1841 Census it states Henry Highwood was a shoe maker. On the 1861 census it states Henry Highwood was living at 14 Church Street Rotherhithe. yet Maddie I see you have found the probate for JOHN Highwood shoemaker and was living at 14 Church Street Rotherhithe so obviously John / Henry is the same person so wonder who this other John is on the 1871 census boarding with William Robson. Did they put unmarried on schedule instead of widower because he had no wife with him .Sorry I think I have read it wrong looks like John was on the probate for David Highwood who died in 1859 but probate not until 1868, so was John or Henry whoever he called himself still alive ? . Henry Highwood stated as being a Labourer on 1861 census. Must come to the conclusion that John or Henry Highwood are the same person. Still don’t feel the Henry Highwood that died in 1868 St Olave Southwark is the one married to Margaret Robson . Need to solve who this John Highwood is on 1871 census, obviously knew William Robson well and why were the children of Henry and Margaret’s children with him as boarders. |

Going by the baptism records posted by Pricklyholly and Erika, it looks as though John and Henry were twins - or at least baptised on the same date, 24 Dec 1815. |

Just studied above info again and spotted a John Hiwood baptised 24 Dec 1815 also a Henry Hiwood baptised 24 Dec 1815 the same day so are they twins or brothers just got baptised on the same day and when Henry died John took on the children of Henry and Margaret, now that’s making more sense. |
