Find Ancestors

Joseph Farrer was born 6 January 1911 in Liverpool. There's a probate record for his death in 1953 in which he leaves money to Hannah Farquahar, a married woman. I'm trying to find out who Hannah was. My first thought was that she was his daughter but I can't find a marriage for her. Any suggestions?

Do you know who Joseph married? He is still single in the 1939 register where he is a ship's steward. Could she just be a friend/other relative? I can't find a marriage of a Mr. Farquahar to a Hannah with any surname. Could she be from abroad if he travelled on ships?

I have no idea if he married. There are two marriages for a Joseph Farrer, one in 1932 and one in 1940 but don’t know if either of them are his.

The 1932 marriage isn’t his.

Probate DOES NOT identify the legatees. That woman would be the executor, and as Probate wasn’t granted until 1959, the 1957 marriage fits

Why don’t you look for children of the 1940 marriage?

Or check whether he had a sister named Hannah?

The man who died in 1953 was aged FIFTYFOUR

Joseph did not have a sister, Hannah.
If Hannah married in 1957, after Joseph's death, then how could she be mentioned in his will as a married woman?
You say the one who died in 1953 was the wrong one because he was 54 … how do you know he was 54?
