Ok thank you AG. Now I am wondering why I cant find a marriage for George in 1941 Massachusetts, maybe she married someone else.

The two registrations are for the same marriage - .look at the ref no's

Hi ErikaH, yes I could see the ref numbers were the same, but I thought if I did a search in 1941 for a marriage for George Lanyon in Massachusetts it would come up with the same reference number as the corresponding entry to Beatrice M Garvey.

It doesn't - I tried that a couple of hours ago

kmccarthy1492 has a tree on ancestry which has a document from The Angel Guardian Home which names Joan's mother as Beatrice Martino born Boston MA in 1918. She lived (blank space) Lanyon in New Jersey for a time then moved to Brooklyn in 1951. She lived with Mr Lanyon (unreadable) ....and and your father until his death in March 1950.

**ur father George Lanyon was born in Wilks-Barre PA .....etc.

The unreadable bit possibly says her husband. I assume 1950 is a mistake as there is also the obituary notice which is 13 March 1958. It mentions George's wife Mary and 3 children, Joseph, Joan and Patricia.

Hi alviegal, yes that's my cousin, the one I am researching this with. The whole thing has been a bit of a mystery, nothing seems to fit!!

We are now wondering if she was born Beatrice Mary Garvey or Mary Beatrice Garvey, then she married someone with the surname Martin, before she married George Lanyon, I did just look for a marriage to a Martin but couldn't find one.

What we would love to find are other family members of Mary/Beatrice who are alive today, we were hoping if we could trace her family from back then, we could then find living relatives.

Just grasping at the straw of the name Beatrice Garvey - but almost certainly not the right person. This one is only Garvey by marriage:

Shirley- just as a matter of interest, my cousin's Mum, Beatrice's daughter, has a DNA match with Gary Saunders, so there is defiantly a connection between him and us.

I am connected to Gary tree too through my maternal grandfather who married Jessie Ager

His connection to your tree may be through a marriage with in his tree

Shirley, I will have a look later, just doing dinner, what a coincidence!!!

I haven't got a DNA match with him, but my cousins have, that's just the random way in which the DNA works. My Mum hasn't either, its my maternal line.

For example there are cousins which I have a DNA match with, but (depending on whether its maternal or paternal) my parents may or may not have a match, I've seen it with siblings, that's why they say get as many family members tested as possible.

Anyway, Gary lives in Maidenhead, an area I know well, I used to live in West London, and then Surrey, moved to Worthing 14 years ago. I know Maidenhead well.

The name Ager rings a bell.

Getting back to the point, I think Gary is related through the Lanyon side and not the Garvey side.

After the 1911 the family moved to charlton in south east London and lived in the same rental house till mum died in1980

Mum took over the tenancy after Nan died in 1958


Hubby and I with our daughter moved to Rainham Kent in 1967 .
I still live in the house we bought as a new build then

Shirley, can you see my tree on Ancestry, its no where complete yet, as I have many names to put in it, but my Ancestry name is either v23deb or Deborah Lynn Dawson. I certainly know the name Ager from somewhere and Batchelor.

I have been concentrating lately on my DNA matches, and following through using common ancestors to find living relatives.

Arthur’s sister Esther Jane Batchelor married a Henry Hounslow and they are Gary grandparents on his dads side

It would be nice to find out how Gary relates to us, it would be even better if he is related through Beatrice Martin, because that would mean we have found a living relative.

I will have a closer look at his tree and my cousin is going to contact the vital records office in New York to see if she can find out more about the 1941 marriage.

I have been studying all the information you have kindly provided for me, and realised I missed something, or maybe I am just reading it wrong.

Then the next post, 4 Dec 12.23, says Ancestry does tie her to......

Does this mean that there is a connection between Mary C Garvey and Mary Lanyon, sorry if I am being thick.
