What about after the war say in 1949?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Jul 2024 21:16

No, there were no Electoral Rolls in wartime.

There is no evidence of his marrying anyone, unless he did so using a name other than the one he was given at birth

Is there anyway of finding out who lived with Jasper at the add in Sittingbourne, 37 Mill street in 1941 0r 1944? If we knew who he was married to that would help?

My goodness 9 children!

alviegal Report 21 Jul 2024 20:20

PETTY SESSIONS On Monday, Jasper Read, dealer, father of 9 children, was summoned for the 12th time for non-attendance at school of 2 of his children. He was also summoned for non-payment of a fine of £4 in respect of 4 children inflicted some time ago. Well yes I agree but it was poorly written but i thought it looked like a Jasper.

I checked out the other J W Read and his mothers maiden name is Walter so def not him.(as per greyghost post )

There is a George L Read b 1938 Q2 mmn Haines but when I looked this up on Free BMD the wife he married didnt fit. This was in connection with the newspaper article about a Jasper's son George not attending school.

The thing is when i discovered who Jasper was on the 1921 census, I thought with a name like that, I would be able to locate him and see where his life took him. But how wrong was I ???

Well for today, im not looking anymore as I have spent hours and my eyes need a break from the PC. Ty to all for all your info. i shall carry on tomorrow when Im free and see what I find.

Florence in the hebrides

I have to disagree with you, Florence - to me it definitely looks like Gasper.

But the man's proper name was probably Jasper, or Casper, or other spelling - or maybe it's just a name he was known by.

Florence61 Report 21 Jul 2024 19:02

Oh i have also been looking for a marriage too but without success.

I enlarged the image and def agree aviegal that it is a Jasper

ArgyllGran Report 21 Jul 2024 19:00

I saw that 1939 record for Gasper, Alviegal, and have spent ages trying to find the parents' marriage (if any) , without success.

The daughter married Ernest A Hatchet in 1947 in Sittingbourne, and died in Swale reg district in 1987.

I'm not sure that all the closed records relate to Gasper and Ethel, as they and Ellen are at the bottom of a page.

Ethel also appears on the following page, which is a page for corrections.

This is the closest I'm finding even though the date of birth is way out.

Yes of course in 1921Jasper was with his mother etc but no brother George S Read. and no sign of Jasper after 1921.

Think I have got that straight now phew!

Florence61

Florence61 Report 21 Jul 2024 17:52

I have just realised ErikaH why this school record sounded familiar and now I know.

I had been looking at Jasper's school record and at that time hadn't discovered she had had 2 other children before him. So when I found Jasper on the 1919 school record unbeknown to me on the same page was an entry for George Samuel!!

I have only recently found these details and havent searched properly for Samuel George as was concentrating on finding Jasper.

Yes she was calling herself Mrs Read I think to save face as she really was still Miss Syrett until she married Bert Evans in 1921 and then Bertie e Taylor in 1933.

She probably was also living at her sisters who was Sophia Skinner in Headcorn.

So then we know that both brothers were in school together in 1919 but after that?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 21 Jul 2024 17:49

The child born 1912 was named George S(amuel) as per birth registration and school records

Florence61

Florence61 Report 21 Jul 2024 17:21

Right Im back

So so sorry.

May had a baby called Samuel Syrett born on 1911 Q1, he died in 1911 from Enteritus or something like that. Milton Kent On that birth cert, May didnt name the father as left blank. She was in the Chatham workhouse then.

So in 1912 21 Feb she had another son called Samuel George Read baptised 15 Apr 1912. In Dover. On this cert she says shes married and formerly Syrett.

Then in 1914 she had Jasper Read. who was on the 1921 census but Samuel George Read wasnt.

ErikaH Report 21 Jul 2024 16:50

No, Jasper isn’t mentioned - the link is probably the name Sophia Skinner with whom the family were visiting in 1921

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 21 Jul 2024 16:46

Link to the other thread, mentioned by ErikaH - but probably too long and convoluted for anyone to read through it all now:

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1402832

Anyway, it doesn't mention Jasper.

ADDED:

Ah, I knew Sims Buildings rang a bell.

I found that 1939 record in 2021:

ErikaH Report 21 Jul 2024 16:44

So who was the George Samuel Read in school in Headcorn with DoB of 25th Feb 1912?

In 1917 his mother was Mrs Read of Glover’s Bridge (‘Mrs Skinner’). SAME in 1918

In 1919 his mother was Mrs Read of Wheeler Street - identical info to that for Jasper

No death on freebmd to fit a child aged 13 months………….where was it registered?

Florence61

Florence61 Report 21 Jul 2024 16:43

ArgyllGran our posts crossed

Oh well done for finding his parents ty. So now they were in Woolwich London, by golly they moved so much

Florence61

Florence61 Report 21 Jul 2024 16:41

Ty for all your info.
So ErikaH, yes the other lengthy thread was re Sophia marrying a haggerty but this thread is purely trying to find May's son jasper Read.

When I looked at the school records, it was obvious he only attended part time and I think they moved around quite a bit.

That Jasper W Read is not the correct one. I have his birth cert b 1914.

Alviegirl, that George S Read child died aged 13 months, i download the death cert.
