Hopefully Patricia will come back with at least an area of Scotland to look at - otherwise a bit of a pointless exercise. ( needles and haystacks)

I had stupidly forgotten to look for alternative spellings on SP.

As well as Thomas Simpson baptised in Glasgow, there are these baptisms:

SYMPSON, THOMAS
ALEXANDER SYMPSON/ISOBEL GRINLAW FR525 (FR525)
M
20/03/1757
667
20 / 92
Kirkliston

SYMPSON, THOMAS
MATHEW SYMPSON/JANNET FORREST FR231 (FR231)
M
22/05/1757
567
10 / 218
Inverkip

There are two trees in Search both with a Thomas Simpson 1757 born in different places in West Lothian.

Copied from the General Chat thread:

"Looking for any information please on Thomas Simpson born 1757 in Scotland."

No other info given.

This is the only record on Scotlands People of a Thomas Simpson baptised in Scotland in 1757.

SIMPSON, THOMAS
[Parents] JAMES SIMPSON/MARY MUIR FR308 (FR308)
M
[Date of baptism ] 07/12/1757
644 / 1
130 / 68
Glasgow

[On FamilySearch, the transcription of that record gives date of baptism as 7/12/1757, and the date of birth as 29/12/1757 - which is clearly a mistranscription ]

There is no record of any siblings' baptisms.
There is no record of the parents' marriage.

Of course, I don't know if this is the man you're interested in or not.

If you register with Scotlands People, and buy credits (£7.50 for 30) you can view an image of the original baptism record - though it won't tell you any more than posted above, unless you're extremely lucky, in which case it Might give his father's occupation.

https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

How have you worked back to this man?
Did he marry and have children?

If you don't know that, there's a slight possibility that he died in infancy:

SIMPSON, THOMAS
[Father's name] JAMES SIMPSON
M
[Date of death or burial] 02/04/1758
644 / 1
480 / 17
Glasgow

I don't know the age of the above person, and can't say if he's the same Thomas Simpson or not.
Credits will let you view the above record on SP, and that should give you the age of the person who died.

Without some basis on which to work, not sure how anyone could possibly help

Welcome to the boards, Patricia.

However, you'll have to give us more information, if we are to try to help.

Simpson is a very common name.
Please give us some specific names of people.
Where in Scotland?
When?
