Hi Members, I am looking for a Edward Karr Styles, we think born about 1832 in Gloucestershire. We have his son George Edward Styles born 28/5 1872, George married Florence Ada Tugwell. What I'm looking for is who Edward Karr Styles married, a close friend had he married a Elizabeth ? but no proof. We have Georges Marriage certificate and his father Edward was an army surgeon, his son George got married in 1895 but his dad Edward was already deceased, any help would be appreciated.

IF...George was born in 1872, this could be his record of birth on the freebmd site
Births Jun 1872 Styles George Gloucester 6a 306 Styles George Edward Gloucester 6a 306
You will note that there are 2 entries with the same reference page. Clicking on the glasses next to the 306 on the freebmd site will take you to the printed GRO index page used by the transcribers. The 2 entries for George and George Edward are there.
However If you look up the entry on the actual GRO site, there is only ONE listing, which shows the birth recorded with the same reference numbers but just as George. Notably no mother's maiden name is recorded. This can indicate an illegitimate birth and might mean HER surname was Styles. Also on the GRO site entry, it is noted 'Occasional Copy' which indicates that the original information given by the informant of birth has been ammended in some way.
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname: STYLES, GEORGE - GRO Reference: 1872 J Quarter in GLOUCESTER Volume 06A Page 306 Occasional Copy: A
I looked for George in 1881 searching for clues to his mother, but George is a boarder in another household.
In 1871 census, I looked for Styles in the Gloucestershire area and there is a 23 years old Elizabeth, who is a pauper. Could she be George's mother, who was later unable to care for him so he boarded out?
You need to purchase George's birth certificate to find the recorded facts.
Edward Karr may be a made-up name to cover the illegitimacy.

Thanks Gwyn for your time and answer i will look into it.

Definitely illegitimate - GlosBMD site shows NO info for MMN
Was the child baptised?
No apparent connection to the family he was boarding with in 1881. The head was Artus, his wife Clissold at birth

George didn’t marry Elizabeth West :-S :-S

1939 Register wrongly gives his YOB as 1865, and Florence's as 1863:
George E Styles in the 1939 England and Wales Register Name George E Styles Gender Male Marital Status Married Birth Date 28 May 1865 Residence Date 1939 Address 4 Cheese Lane Residence Place Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Occupation Hairdresser Line Number 10 Schedule Number 76 Sub Schedule Number 1 Enumeration District Oamb Borough Bristol Registration district 319/4 Inferred Spouse Florence A Styles Household Members (Name) Gender Birth Year George E Styles Male - 28 May 1865 Florence A Styles Female - 1 Dec 1863
Incidentally, there seems to be no birth record of Florence and several of her siblings, and her parents seem never to have married.

Army List A list of British Army officers that includes details of their service, promotions, appointments, and other information:
What's included Details of officers serving in the British Army, including regular, militia, and territorial officers. Also includes information on colonial, militia, and territorial units, the yeomanry cavalry, *******medical******** and veterinary officers, and retired officers.
When it started The first official Army List was published in 1740, but manuscript lists of officers were kept as early as 1702.
Findmypast.co.uk: Includes a database of Army Lists from 1839–1946, which can be searched through PDF images of the original publications.
The National Archives Documents Online: Includes Annual Army Lists from 1754–1879, which can be downloaded as PDF files or viewed online. Hart's Army List An unofficial alternative to the official Army Lists, created by Lieutenant-General George Hart. It lists officers in both the British and Indian Army.
If Edward Karr Styles was an Army Surgeon you would expect him to be recorded somewhere in the above records.
Can anyone check FMP please He may have be Gazetted also.
Commissioned Officers were not issued service numbers until 1920........
I have a set of Pre WW1 Army Lists, but they are date specific. I could search for him if I knew in which year he was commissioned.
