My name is Suzan Dawson-Riley, Dawson is my family name, (maiden name). I live in Byron Bay, NSW, Australia. Hope to contact anyone who is connected to our side of the Dawson family. My ggg grandfather, Robert Dawson was born in Great Essex, UK, 1782 -1866. He was the first chief agent (managing director) of the Australian Agricultural Company. He came out here to Australia 1824/26 and was right-hand-man to Macarthur and selected and brought the the first Merino sheep into Australia. Robert Dawson's first son was Robert Barrington Dawson, who was lands commissioner around Lismore. RD senior named the following places in Australia; Barrington Tops, Stroud, Dawson River at Taree, among many other places/rivers. He was a close friend of Leichhardt and financed one of Leichardt's expeditions into northern Queensland, Australia, whereupon Leichardt named a second Dawson River after his benefactor. I have heaps more information, in fact I should set up a website, just haven't got around to it yet. Would love to hear from any blood relatives. Kind regards, Suzi
