A number of Bannisters (Banestre) were mayors of Preston, Lancs around that time. There are still many Bannister family members in that area of the country, also Roger Bannister descends from The Trawden (Lancashire) Bannisters.

My wife has as her maiden name Bannister. She was born in Belfast and her father was Richard and she has a brother Henry.I would be interested in further researching the name and its origins. If anyone has any information it will be gratefully received.
