Hi, Does anyone know of John Barber, born in 1790 somewhere in England. Was sentenced for 14 years then sent to Australia on ship 'Marquis of Wellington' in 1815. I am Patricia, his gr gr grand daughter. I am aware of his subsequent grant of freedom, his marriage and children in Australia but have come against a brick wall with his English history. Would anyone be able to tell me where he was born, where he lived, who his parents and siblings were? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Patricia

I don't know if this is anything to do with your John Barber but it may be - three men Thomas McArdill, Andrew Dunn, and John Barber (listed as female) were sentenced to transportation from Ireland for suspected theft of mare and sheep. Date not know but looks like might be 1815 , I don't have the date but follow this link and you may be able to track from there. Good luck.
