My father, George Thomas Norris was born 19/2/12 in the sub-district of Peckham South. His birth certificate shows just his mother's details, May Rosina Elvy (I knew her as Rosina), Laundry Preparer. Her marriage certificate shows her marrying Joseph William Norris, Warehouseman, (his father being Joseph Norris, Bootmaker) on 14/9/13 at Wimbledon where she is named as Rose Elvy, Widower. Her father is named as David Burns, Merchant Seaman (Waterside Labourer elsewhere). My father died in '71. I have always been lead to believe that his mother was of Romany descent. I will be happy if this info can assist anyone else with their search, or if anyone else can enlighten me with any history. |
