Richard Report 30 May 2007 17:36

Hi, my name is Richard Day. I am liooking for information on my Grandfather, CHARLES SYDNEY DAY born 1887 at St Albans Hertfordshire. Charles spent time in the army with the Royal Scots Regiment before returning to St Albans and working as a warehouseman in the strawhat factory of Henry Partridge-Smith in Malborough Road. On the outbreak of WW1 he was called up as a reservist and sent to France where, on 25/26 August 1914, he was captured. Charles spent the remainder of the war as a POW in Germany. His last known sighting was 7th December 1918 when he attended his sister Charlotte Annie's funeral in St Albans having just returned from Germany. Charles may have emigrated to Canada or Australia - one thing is for sure he didn't see my Grandmother ! If anyone has any further info I would be grateful regards Richard Day
