We have fairly complete records of a Keen line going back to around the late 1500's. At this time the family was based around Meare / Street in Somerset. The surname seems to have morfed as we have gone back - Keene and possibly before that, Kene. The records around this time are in Latin and I would be interested to hear from anyone who has done any research into the Street & Leigh documents of this time - especially if they have come across any references to this/these surnames. The family seemed have married into the Roode, Scotton and Westlake families. Wills from around this time also mention families including Flecker, Hatch, Pittard and Hutchins - it seems we oversaw each other's will and left each other money! |
