The name Algar was first introduced into this country when William the Conqueror arrived in Britain, The Earl Algar held lands for William in various parts of the country and is named in the Domesday Book as one of the top 200 landowners at the time of the Great Survey in 1086. He had two sons, both rebel Earls apparantly, and one of them was married to Lady Godiva.
