Hi Amanda

Happy New Year to you.

I only read your post before Christmas but forgot to reply. I don't know whether you've had any replies to this in the past I notice it is sometime since you posted the message and may have the information you were looking for by now.

I was interested to read your mention of a William Powell who came from Meredith Street in Crewe. My grandfather was called William Powell and was also born in Crewe in 1914. Its probably not the same person, but as a coincidence I thought it was worth replying. Now I don't know Crewe that well or the life of my grandfather, but I do know that he lived with my grandmother at Selworthy Drive, which is not that far at all from Merideth Street, if it is the same steet I'm thinking of. I know they were married in 1938 at Haslington and had 3 children 1940, 1943 and 1946, however, I don't know where William used to live. before Selworthy Drive. I asked my Dad but he doesn't know either, he only remembers living at Selworthy Drive.

William's parents - also William Powell (b.1876) and Florence Mary also lived in Newcastle St/Ave towards the end of their lives - again not that far away from Meredith Street. It might be coincidence but the name just sticks out. Have you been able to find out anymore? You mention that your father looks like his double - do you have a photo? I haven't mentioned it to Dad, but I did ask him what grandad did during the war and I don't believe he was a cook though but I could be wrong - I haven't been doing the family tree for long.

I can be contacted her on Genesreunited or at my personal email address [email protected].

Kind Regards

Iain Powell
