Sheila, My g.g.grandmother was Rachael Smallwood who was born between 6th and 13th April 1841 in Hinderwell, N. Yorks. Her father was Henry Smallwood (b.11/12/1803 in Mickleby, N. Yorks.) who was a blacksmith in Hinderwell. Her mother was Mary Anne Wren (b.10/05/1806 in Stockton, Durham.) When Rachael was 10 she was visiting her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Francis Harland in Baxtergate, Whitby on the day of the 1851 census, so there is a connection there with your info. Rachael began a varied and interesting marital career 22/09/1856 in St. Nicholas' Cathedral, Newcastle when she married Charles Jacob. She put that she was "of full age" but of course she was only 15! Our family think she had probably eloped as we don't think she ever returned to Hinderwell. She married 3 times in all and my grandmother was her grandaughter through one of the children of her second family.
Do we have a connection?
