The John Luckett you are looking for was actually born in Gillingham in 1828, the eldest child of Sergeant John Luckett, Royal Marines and his wife Philadelphia Wood. John Luckett senior was in the Royal Marines in 1838. By 1848 he was a labourer, living in Luton Road, Chatham. [I know this from his daughter's birth certificate]. Philadelphia was born in 1808. By November 1838 she was in the Faversham Workhouse. I know of five children: John (born 1828), Philadelphia (born 1831) in the Workhouse with her mother, Caroline, who in 1853 married Alfred Thornton, George William, born 1835, who married Jane and had 8 children, Thomas, born 1838, and Hannah, born 1848. I have birth certificates for Thomas and Hannah. |

am looking for any leads on John Newnham Luckett, born in Kent 1829, joined the marines as a drummer boy, married Fanny Jane Wolger in Chatham 1857. Moved to Evesham and St Helens in Lancs where he died in 1893.Had several children of both sex, first son John born 1859 and last son William (my grandfather) born 1875. Any help appreciated |
