There were Ruddys in Cork City in Turners Cross back in the 1950s. The young man went to Colaiste Criost Ri and his sister to South Presentation Convent.

These may give you a lead.

For the origin of the name I would be more inclined to check McLysaght's Irish Family names.

ancestors i believe are from ireland{west coast}?moved around a bit i.e scotland,canada,scotland,england.Heard through member of family the name may originate from rodriguez,through merchant shipping off the west coast of ireland .if anybody as any information regarding this i would be very interested.
