CHARLES KIDD I am trying to find any relations of Charles Kidd. He went to Australia in 1853/4 for the Gold Rush. We have a letter from him to his family in the London area describing the voyage, how three people had died two men and a woman. He was travelling with two friends, Mr Jacques and Mr Davis but when they arrived and started to make their way to the gold fields he became ill and became separated from them. The letter is written from the Bask Inn, in Gisborn. He says he has sent a letter to his wife (possibly Caroline) on the SS Great Britain the previous day and expects this letter to go on the Sarah Hands the following day. The lady who died was Mrs Solomens and he mentions her name as her husband had a timber merchants in Lambeth and he thinks they may know them. My gt gt grandmother was Eliza Kidd (b. 1830c d. 1921 at the age of 89 she is buried at Valley End, Cobham Common. My gt gt grandfather was William Henry Burnham he was also born in 1830 and died in 1915c. I have always felt that is a very interesting story and would be interested to hear from anyone this rings a bell with.
