Looking for information about parents, siblings or place of birth of James Baxter Lamond born probably in Scotland c.1860, became a marine engineer. Also interested in his wife Isabella Wilson. They had the following children between around 1880-1890 (not sure of the order): John Alexander McKelvie Lamond who died age 5; Winifred Isabel Corrine Lamond; Muriel Lamond; Phoebe Alexandra Lamond; Gladys Annabella Lamond. At least one of these was born in Broughty Ferry, Scotland. The family went to live in Shanghai, China in about late 1890s. Any information would be appreciated. thanks Jane

Further information now goes back several generations from James Baxter Lamond.

His father John Steele Lamond born 1833 manufacturer/mill owner, married Ann Will 1854 (eventually went to live in USA).

His grandfather John Lamond born 1802 Dundee weaver or cloth lapper, married Elspet Clark 1831.

His great-grandfather Robert Lamond (shepherd) married Margaret Robertson 1798.

I'm now looking for information about his great-great-grandfather J Lamond and any of his family.

sorry Liz, I got this information from a relative who has been researching around the Dundee area, and I just got 'old parish records'. Robert was apparently listed as a shepherd on his son John's death certificate (31/07/1870, Dundee).

Robert's three children given to me as born in Perth (Janet), Dundee (John), and Kettins (James), again from old parish records, which might be of some help.
