Trying to find Telfer

My great-grandmother was Margaret Telfer, she married Charles William Panting, and they had children born in New Zealand. I have inherited a gold, sapphire and diamond ring that belonged to Margaret Telfer. It is engraved 'Mag Dick' and '29.4.01' (1901). But I don't know who Dick is, as this doesn't seem to fit with my great-grandfather's name. It is dated 4 1/2 years before my grandmother (Marguerite Panting) was born, and I don't know what the date means either, whether it is a marriage date or what it could be. We are not aware of any previous marriages. Can anyone help out? Does anyone know of a Dick who was in love with a Mag 106 years ago? Jody. |
