Trying to find Ather

Trying to find any history of Thomas Ather (1883), in and around the Buckinghamshire area. I have found information suggesting the family name changed from Ather to Goff somewhere in the late 1800s. My grandfather was Percy Goff (1914), but his father Thomas' marriage certificate lists him as Thomas Athergoff, and his birth certificate as Thomas Ather. His later siblings (Eliza), are listed as Ather Goff. Any help or direction on how to trace this further would be much appreciated. Many thanks Jason
