Graham Report 3 Mar 2015 19:59

Hi,

CHARLES CORBY / SARAH BROWN

Sorry for the delay, I have their marriage date of 8 October 1793, and their children from 1794 so I have been looking for a dob from 1766 to 1773 without success.

Graham Report 3 Mar 2015 19:45

Hi, Sorry for the absence on this site. I have just recovered it after getting into a mess . I can see there is a lot of info for me to look at. If one of you experienced researchers could help me find Charles abt 1766/1773 and his wife Sarah I would be happy to pay for your help and any certificates such as Charles date of death. I have tried but failed.
However, I really appreciate any help as I have virtually given up.

I took a step back because I had run into a brick wall, not only on my Mother's Corby line, but also my Father's Powell line, AND somehow, I have many, many duplicates in my Ancestry Tree where I tried to hold my main records. When I tried to remove the duplicates I lost whole legs on the Tree, and had to re feed the info, so, I have left them where they are at present

Once again, many thanks, and I will now try and sort out the info you have provided.

Best Regards

Graham Powell

That burial info was posted ON HERE................as was that of the Charles who died in 1861, and was that man's GRANDSON

WHY did you say initially that you had the 1841 census, when it wasn't true?

Helpers wasted time trying to find it to verify your 'info'

Misleading people when you want their help is not a good strategy

Final note:

Two PM's just received from Graham, though personally I won't be searching for Charles Corby any more..

Hi,
Thanks for your help.

I have just received some info that appears to fit in with the date we have for his marriage to Sarah Brown on 8 Oct 1793 and the dates of birth of his children.

It's from the Parish Records Collection 1538/2005.
Burial on 14 Apl 1826 of Charles Corby aged 60.

Best Regards

Graham Powell ( my Mother was a Corby )

Hi, We don't have the 1841 Census Record for the family. However, we have the marriage record ( English Marriages 1538-1973 for St Michael's church, Coventry OMD Source Film 428986) and the dates and names of his children from the Christening records of the Church.
Best Regards

Graham

Would you please READ the info posted by me on 14 Feb - on page one of this thread.................

There is nothing to be gained by re-posting YOUR info............

And you started out by saying your had FOUND Charles on the 1841 census, which now appears NOT to be the case.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 17 Feb 2014 12:23

You say he was born "about 1767". (Do you mean 1776?)

then later in the same post you say "he would have been just 16 or 17 in Oct 1793."
that would mean he was born c 1776.

And "he could have been aged any where between 60 and 64yrs in June 1841. "
That would mean he was born 1777-1781.

Which do you mean?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 17 Feb 2014 12:19

Still not seeing them in 1841, regardless of when he was born.
Please will you post the census record you found, Graham?

Entered in the Death's Index for June 1861 is a Charles Corby of Coventry @ 6d 245/279. ( and 6d 205) ?
Also in the same page is recorded a Caroline Corby, Coventry, @ 6d 240. ( and 6d 220) ?
There is another entry for Charles Corby in Sep 1864 @ 6d 279

Knowing the ages are ‘rounded down’ for adults on the 1841 Census working backwards to the date of the marriage to Sarah, as recorded in St Michael’s Parish Records, Coventry. The 60 against Charles’s name means he could have been aged any where between 60 and 64yrs in June 1841. The 70 against Sarah’s name means she could have been aged anywhere between 70 and 74 yrs. In order to ‘fit’ these into what we know of ‘our’ Charles and Sarah i.e. their wedding was in Oct 1793, we would need to assume Charles was 64 at the time of the census in 1841. Sarah’s exact age at the time of the Census is not so critical. OK, so working back with this info., it would suggest that if the Charles of the Census is ‘our’ man, he would have been just 16 or 17 in Oct 1793. Sarah could have been about 22, if we take 70 as her ‘real’ age in 1841.

Unless Graham has the 1861 death cert, he can't possibly know that it relates to a man born almost 100 years earlier

I'd like to bet it was a much younger man.................

can't see this one after 1861
