Margaret (Margot)

Margaret (Margot) Report 19 Jun 2007 17:59

Catherine REGAN nee BYRNE was born in dublin around 1799. She married Patrick REGAN, they had two children John born 1830 and Margaret born 1834 in Ireland. They left Ireland in August 1837 on board the 'Bussorah Merchant' arriving Hobart on the 12 December 1837. On the trip out Patrick's children contacted measles, John died on the 19 Oct and margaret died on the 5 Dec. 1837. The Ship was quarantined at north West Bay, South of Hobart for many months due to outbreak of measles on board with many children dying. Once free from quarantine, they set sail to Port Jackson (Sydney) on the ship 'Moffart' arriving on the 25 April 1838. They then joined their Parents and sister Mary at Wollombi in NSW. if anyon has any information about Catherine Byrne's parents/siblings in Ireland, I would be greatful, also if anyone has any connections with the existing 'Regans' in County Meath, Ireland or Wollombi, Narrabri or Cessnock, in Australia. please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you Margot
