Trying to find Curtis

Hello I'm trying to find out anything about my Great Grandad Frederick Curtis born roughly 1860 - not sure where he was born. He was a sergeant in the Dorset Regiment. His daughter was Elsie and she married Charles Tansley in 1932 in Portsmouth. It states on the marriage certificate that Frederick Curtis was deceased at the time of the marriage. Also on the marriage certificate was a Violet Curtis as a witness - wife/sister/other relative? If anyone could help I would be grateful - I seem to have drawn blanks with this one!
