Trying to find Treadwell

Delma,
I am David Houghton. My Father and I had heard rumours from older family members that there was a Treadwell connection. We had worked out that my grandfather was probably the son of Joseph and Eliza. Also my father remembers writing to his grandmother, "Ma" Stewart. However, we didn't know Eliza's maiden name, so we had no idea where the name Houghton came from, neither did we know Eliza had married Alexander, so couldn't understand the Stewart connection. You question has thrown a lot of light on the situation.
I'm sorry but I can not answer your original question - I wasn't sure enough of the Treadwell connection to follow it back any further.
By the way, there was also a story that Eliza was born in Sweden of British parents - can you confirm this?
If you have any interest in the Houghton branch of the family I will happily let you have the information, although it is not on Genes Reunited yet - my father maintains it on his computer.
You didn't mention in your question who your father was - I would be interested to know if we share both great-grandparents, if you don't mind sharing this information.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Trying to find Joseph Treadwells family in Marylebone London he was born about 1857, I think he was married to Eliza ? and they had a daughter but he left them and went to live with my great Grandmother Eliza Houghton in Woodhouses Manchester they had about 5 or six children, but I have drawn a blank, as he was alive 1901 census, but Eliza married Alexander James Stewart 1909, so I dono't know if Joseph died or if he went back to London They had a son Joseph who was killed in the 1st world war Is there any one out there with any information please
