George Hill This man was my Great, Great Grandfather and I know very little about him other than the facts listed below. My Grandmother, b.1863 claimed that Sir Rowland Hill, the man who introduced the penny stamp, was “a button-hole relation” of her family on the Hill side. I have searched for such a link without success and it has also been impossible to find George Hill’s parents or any of his siblings and forebears George Hill information: Born in 1799 Westminster, St James, London Married to Eliza Parton (b1794 in Kington, Herefordshire) Eliza died 10.9.1861 Camberwell, Surrey. Marriage date and place: 2nd May 1820, St Martin in the Fields Died 6th February 1861 at 3 Chapel Place, Cottage Green, Camberwell, Surrey (aged 61 years) Occupation: Shown as Artificial Florist on Census forms and Master Haberdasher on his death certificate. Parents: Maybe either Thomas and Ann Hill with a George Hill d.o.b. 12 May 1799 or Thomas and Sarah with a George Hill d.o.b. 25 August, 1799 The information above was obtained from Westminster archives e.g. there were 2 George Hill baptised at Westminster St James church in 1799. Children: Eliza Maund Hill b.11.l.1821, died 24.5.l842 Jessy Wonham Hill b. 6.4.1823, died 13.10.1855 Ann Hill b.12.7.1824, died 12.9.18— George Rowland Hill b.5.11.1825 died 18.3. abt.1872 Henry Parton Hill b.1827 Susan Hill b.5.5.1829, died 26.11.1842 Miriam Hill b.23.9.1831, died 5.4.1848 Mary Hill b.28.5.1833 Catherine Hill b.28.9.1835, m. 19.6.1862, d. 15.2.1908 (my great grand mother).
