Looking for ancestors of James Burt, Constable and Turnpike Gate-keeper of Odcombe, Yeovil, Somerset and later postman of Martock, Somerset. James was born in Odcombe in 1826, I would like TO KNOW HIS MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME. His father was William Burt, agricultural labourer and he had three siblings: Edwin, Alfred and Ann. He married someone called Jane Jeffery from Marwood, North Devon who was born about 1820. I am interested in this not merely because she was one of my great-great grandparents, but because my family (the Quembys) lived in Combe Martin, North Devon for forty years, not knowing that g g gran was born five miles away! I hope someone can help. Marwood is a hamlet near Muddiford, close to Barnstaple. |
