I am trying to find out if George Grimston, with or without an 'e' on the end and George Johnson are the same person. I have a George Grimston born 1841 in the St John the Evangelist area of Westminster on my tree. Info from the 1841 Census. I cannot find his birth certificate, but have found a baptism entry for a George Johnson, at St John the Evangelist Church in Smith Square, Westminster. The parents Christian names are correct, as is the address and the father's occupation. Could George senior have complete changed the family surname in about 3 weeks, between the baptism of baby George in May 1841 and the 1841 census being taken in June that year? Birth certificate of George Johnson March 1841 gives the mother's maiden name as Kilbec. Can anyone throw any light on this puzzle? |
