Lookihng for John Simmons John (also known as Jack) was born on 29th July between 1884 – 6 in Peckham, Camberwell, London, Surrey. The exact date in unknown as records vary – we believe this started with him lying about his age to get into the army and as yet have not been able to find a record of his birth. His father’s name was George John Simmons, his mother is believed to be either Jane Randall or Elizabeth. His civilian occupation was as a labourer. Jack served in both the Army and RAF. He joined the army on either 9th April 1902 or 7th May 1903 and served with the 3rd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment of Militia. He was mustered into the RAF as a sergeant major - aircraft hand on 1st April 1918. During World War II he was an air-raid warden in London. Jack died 18th January 1949 in Whitefoot Lane, Bromley. His occupation is recorded as Clerical Supervisor (Air Ministry) He married Elizabeth Sarah Ann Wilkes on 31st March 1907 in Peckham. They had five children: William Peter George was born on 22nd July 1906 in Camberwell. George John Thomas was born on 1st September 1909 in Camberwell. He married Rosie French. John Benjamin (known as Bobby) was born on 9th November 1914 in Shoreditch. He married Rose. Helen (known as Nellie) was born about 1915. Elizabeth Mary Ann (known as Peg) was born 12th August 1917 in Shoreditch. She died in September 2001. John and Elizabeth lived at 188 Hoxton Street, (described as Shoreditch / Hoxton ) from 1884 to 1917. John then married Alice Wareham on 22nd July 1922 in Hastings, Sussex. They had five children: John Robert George was born on 7th April 1919 in Folkestone, Kent. He married Alice Mocock. Edith Catherine Mary (known as Edie) was born on 29th June 1923. Fredrick James was born on 24th January 1925. He married Joan. Joyce Dorothy was born on 28th December 1926. She married Jim Wells. Caroline Alice (known as Carol) married Robert Wells Any info on the birth or parentage of John gratefully recieved as i appear to have hit a dead end thanks Katie ps believe we have census data looking for BMD etc. All dob from his army records for children.
