Trying to find Love

John Report 18 May 2007 16:50

I'm trying to trace my husbands ancestors and have got back as far as his great-grandfather , John Love who settled in Criccieth Gwynedd North wales .We don't have a date of birth , only a date of his first marriage( 1882 ) to give us a clue, and the entry on his first wedding certificate states 'of age' and 'Harry' as his father ( a labourer) , John's occupation being 'mariner' .Family rumour has it that he was from Scotland , but I have no way of verifying this. His first wife, and co-incidentally , his second, were both called Catherine Jones .His first born ( and only surviving child from the first marriage) was Walter Love , my husband's granfather. As I said he remarried , as his first wife died in 1890 , and went on to have another 3 children with his second wife . The second Catherine Love (maiden name Jones) was previously married to another mariner , named Wiliam Hansen ( she had 5 children by him before he died in 1893) Any further details as to where John Love came from would be very much appreciated.I have trawled the census' with no success and can only come to the conclusion that each time they did a census he must have been at sea.
