Hi Jennifer
I have Irwins that match your query. James Irwin b c 1840 Ireland and wife Mary bc 1841 Scotland settled in Jarrow. (My GG Grandparents) Family then in South Shields.
Please contact me if this rings a bell. I know that there are quite a few other Irwin families there but don't think they are related.
