GORDON HITCHINGS - I am trying to find my Mum's half brother who was born in The Salvation Army Hospital for Mothers in Hackney on 27th June 1933. His Mother was Lilian May Hitchings (nee Mills). Gordon was adopted as a baby so, presumably, his name was changed. Thanks so much, Sue

I would think that if you get in touch with the Salvation Army, they may be able to trace the adoption of Gordon.
Other than that, the only people that can trace adoptees is social services.
regards
Sue

Thanks Sue - thats quite spooky because I've just been looking at the Salvation Army's website!! I have previously contacted the SA's archivist who confirms that they have the adoption file but offered no further help than that, maybe they were waiting for me to ask? I think I will email him again & see what he suggests!!

Up until 2005 family members could not get any details of adoptees.Only the adoptee could have access. The law changed in 2005 & now family members can get details.
I believe you would need proof of who you are & would need to have a meeting with somebody from SA.
I have been told that they will also search for a person on your behalf, so go for it.
best wishes
Sue

You've inspired me contact the SA, thank you. I know my Mum would love to find him as my Nan really didn't want to have to give him up but was forced to by her husband (understandable I suppose as the baby wasn't his). We made a start at the beginning of 2007 but came to a dead end as we joined Norcap but there fees were too expensive. I will definately go down the SA route now & will let you know how I get on. Thanks again Sue
