My grandfather was Albert Lawes, who was manager of the Royal Exchange hotel, Aldershot until he died in about 1923. All his three children were born in Greenwich, and I do not know when the family moved to Aldershot . His wife was Emily Alice Hibbit. |

When I was a small child, living in Aldershot,my Mother had a friend with the surname Lawes. I still have a beautiful copy of "Alice in Wonderland" which she gave me in 1948. As I recollect, her name was Edith Annie Lawes and she was, I think, a widow. Not sure whether this would be your family but the name might be a help. Best wishes with your search. |

Correction from Garrett. My grandfather was not Albert, but was Henry Lawes. |
