Trying to find Grabowsky

My paternal great grandmother was listed on her marriage certificate as Christina Henrietta Grabowsky and she married one Edward Fletcher on the 31st July, 1889 at Lebrina, northern Tasmania, Australia. Most unusual name and I,d be very interested to hear from any of her descendants or anyone who could inform me about her. I understand the name is Prussian. Regards Pauline

Sorry, this is not actually my relative, but you're right about the name having been classified as Prussian in the 19th century.

That was because Prussia then owned most of Poland and Grabowsky, actually, is a Polish surname.

My great-great grandfather was a Carl Grabowsky, a theatre director. He was born abiout 1800 in Danzig, Prussia which is now Gdansk Poland.

Carl had one son, Arthur born in St Petersburg (Russia) in 1838, but Arthur emigrated to the USA so that doesn't help with Australia I'm afraid.

However, you could try focusing your search on modern Poland! Best of luck,
Meg.

Evening Meg.
Not a very competent commuter YET and just found your relpy to my notice regarding the Grabowsky family. Since posting that notice have made some headway, which stimulates one to keep going. Cannot quite believe that I have Prussian ancestry.
Thanks again, Pauline
