Trying to find Hudson

I am tracing the Hudson family who so far I have only found info for them in County Durham (possibly Bishop Auckland). I might not be able to trace further back because the family moved to Durham from another county. I definitely have my great great great grandad Robert Hudson, born 1824 in Bishop Auckland and on his birth details it mentions Eleanor Hudson as his mother. There are no other details, i.e. a fathers name. Roberts sister Mary Hudson born a couple of years later also only mentions Eleanor and no other info. If anyone has come to a dead end like this or are at the same dead end please get in touch so we can over come the problem! Many thanks, Tom

Hi Tom
I'm wondering if we're at the same dead end. My maternal Grandfather was Thomas Hudson (weighing scale mechanic) b. 1877. He was living in Gateshead at the 1901 census and married to Lillian Middleton, but going back to the 1891 census, I've found two possible Thomas Hudsons, one aged 13 in Heworth (mother Annie and apparently a widow) and another aged 14 in Bishop Auckland, but I can't decipher the other names on the entry. The Heworth Thos. Hudson is listed on the 1901 return as a Packer (definitely not my grand-dad), so I assume my ancestor came from somewhere other than Gateshead - unfortunately I've no idea where. Any ideas? Thanks, Christine Grove (nee Moodie)

Hi Tom
I'm stuck with my Hudsons too.....but mine are from Birmingham...

But all is not lost with yours...

Eleanor seems to have been a single Mum..had two children Mary and Robert and is with them in 1841 census... a shop keeper in the 1851 census and born 1807...unmarried then too......wonder if this is her??
