ASHENHURST originated in Staffordshire near the town ofLeek in the early middle ages. Those in Ireland may be descendants of one or two Ashenhursts who moved from England to Ireland with Oliver Cromwell after the English Civil War. There are two Irish centres. 1.Dublin, where the TALBOT Ashenhursts appear to have settled, and some of their family returned to England and have descendants in the South East of England, and elsewhere. 2.Newtonstewart and Killymore in County Tyrone, which is the origins of ALL Scottish Ashenhursts, who are all descended from 2 emigrant brothers Samuel and Robert, who arrived in Scotland in the 1850s. There are descendants in Canada from this line, as their brother John emigrated to Canada, as well as 5 of their first cousins, who married and had family in Canada. Just about every American born Ashenhurst can trace back to Newtonstewart circa 1775-1800, although some are descendants of emigrants of more recent times from other parts of the world. Anybody wanting to know any Ashenhurst data , please get in touch. |
