Trying to find out more about Alexander MacRae (shepherd) who married Ann MacLennan c1830 possibly Kintail. Their son Ewen MacRae was my 2xGreat Grandfather. He married Jessie/Janet MacRae 1/3/1860 at Kintail. Ewen died 20/1/1918 at Lochournhead, Knoydart,Inverness-shire. Jessie's parents were John and Flora MacRae. Would love to hear from anyone who recognises this family

Hi

Have you also tried a listing on the McRae website?

www.clan-macrae.org.uk

Someone there might be able to help.

There's a Flora someone who has a lot of information on the McRaes from Kintail.

My gggrandfather was also a Alexander McRae from Kintail - Bundalloch. He too was a shepherd but he was born around 1814 and went to Kirkhill, Inverness.

Hope this is of some assistance. The McRaes are very hard as they all intermarried. Bit of a nightmare really.

Regards

Walter

Hi Walter, Thank you for replying...just took it into my head to look here for the first time in a long time so didn't see your message until today.

I do use the Clan MacRae forum, no luck so far. The McRaes certainly are a nightmare aren't they?

Another place to look is Rootsweb.com...in the family tree section put MacRae in the surname search and then click on Macrae master by Tina Glen-Riddell. It's an excellent database based on the Clan Macrae book
