Trying to find Sayer

Hi Lauren, we have had contact before, is it possible through Harry Sayer? My Sayer family history begins for me in Brotton in 1792 when George Sayer Calvert was born to a Jane Calvert. She also had another son, both of them were illegitimate. We have assumed, being that she was unmarried that the middle names of both her sons were the surnames of the father of each boy. Therefore we could perhaps assume that she had a fling with a Sayer around that area in 1791/92. George Sayer Calvert dropped his mothers name and became George Sayer. My fathers name was Michael Sayer, the first deviation from George in three generations. Coincidentally, George Sayer married Margaret Laverick WALKER and another George Sydney Sayer (1900) married Doris Spence. Common family names I know but there you go. Cheers, Sally

THE SAYER FAMILY OF YORKSHIRE 1600-1815 (Currently focussing on KIRK LEAVINGTON/APPLETON WISKE/NORTH OTTERINGTON/HUTTON BONVILLE/ BROMPTON BY NORTHALLERTON/ HUTTON RUDBY/ HOLTBY but I am interested in ANY SAYERs) Since my original posting on this board a few weeks ago it appears almost certain that I have now found the registered births of my gggg grandfather Michael Sayer (bap 1742 Kirk Leavington, North Yorkshire) and his siblings. His parents were James Sayer (bap 1712 Kirby Sigston, died 1810 East Cowton) and Elizabeth Wood (bap 1710 East Rounton), who married 16/11/1731 East Rounton! James and Elizabeth Sayer had the following children: Ann (bap 6 Jan 1732 Appleton Wiske) . John (bap 30 Dec 1734 Appleton Wiske) married Dorothy Harrison 1770 West Rounton, died 1814 . William (bap 14 june 1740 Appleton Wiske) .Farmer & Miller Thomas (bap 7 Feb 1742 Kirk Leavington) . Michael (bap 7 Feb 1742 KirkLeavington , died 1806 Holtby) . Married Rebecca Bell 1777 Hutton Bonville. Was he a farmer?? Elizabeth (bap 6 Jan 1745-6 Kirk Leavington) James born c.1738 - died 1815 Hutton Rudby. Married Elizabeth Spence 1778 in Kirby Sigston. Farmer and Miller So, can anyone provide anyinformation on this North Yorkshire family? I would be particularly interested in any more information about Michael Sayer. He and wife Rebekah appear to have left Lovesome Hill (on borders of Brompton by Northallerton and Hutton Bonville) by 1793, as Manor and Court Leet records for the village of Holtby, North Yorkshire mention a Michael Sayer in 1793 in the lists of tenants. In Sept 1794 he acted as juror and in October 1794 he was again listed as tenant. Subsequent Manor records are missing till 1800. This means he was in Holtby from before 1793-1806. (Holtby is a village south of Warthill off the A166, NE of City of York). I dont know why he decided to move there as there are no family connections I'm aware of. Michael's son, John, and their descendants, mainly agricultural labourers, gradually moved to East Yorkhire - to Market Weighton, Gilberdyke, Holme upon Spalding Moor, then Hull. My great great grandfather George Atkinson SAYER (1849-1946) lived at Hull, worked in the timber trade and married Emily CHERRY (1849-1932). They had 6 children, and one, my grandfather Herbert Atkinson SAYER (1881 -1941) who worked for Hull Conservancy Board, married Florrie WALKER (1885-1956). My father, Edgar SAYER (1911-1968), brought up in Grimsby, moved to Northamptonshire after his marriage to Vivienne Ferguson (Derbyshire bred)where they bred Borzois. If anyone has ANY details I would love to hear from you! Regards laurel Sayer
