The name HISCOCK in All Cannings, Wiltshire, has suffered the whims of clerks and incumbents to the extent that members of the same family have been recorded HISCOCK/ HISCOX/HITCHCOCK[S] and probably a few more variants I've forgotten. What is significant is that Jeffery HISCOCK [note the spelling of both Christian name and surname] SIGNED the parish registers in the 18th Century. As if that were not enough to contend with, Jeffery's nephew Thomas, son of Jeremiah HISCOCK, has suffered defamation of character by mistakenly being identified as an alleged machine breaker in the 'Swing' riots when, logistically, it was PHYSICALLY impossible. Were he alive today I am confident significant damages would have been awarded to a man who was absent from home, serving his King and country! I descend from Jeffery HISCOCK/Dorothy [nee TUCKER] via their son James/Ann [nee AMOR] and Daniel/Sarah [nee MARTIN] of Kingsclere, Hampshire.
