I am trying to get information about my g-g-g-great grandfather Alexander Moffat who was the Proprietor of the "Old Mull Mill"? of Whitfield, Peebleshire, from c 1780 to 1816. He had 3 sons James b 1768; William; John; & a daughter Mary. William was married to Christina Bain (they were my g-g-great grandparents) and their family was Alex b 28 Feb 1804; Isabella b 30 Mar 1810; Alison b 20 Oct 1813; Janet b 28 Sep 1815; William (jnr) b 22 Nov 1817; Mary b ?; John (jnr) b 29 May 1825. John (jnr) was married to Marion Cairns(they were my great-great grandparents) and they had a family of 9 daughters and 3 sons - most of whom lived in Otago and Southland in New Zealand..

HI Elaine

I came across info about this family and think I may be related, a descendant of Willaim (jr) born 1817, but I'm not 100%. You may be able to help me out.
I received my Grandmother's wedding certificate recently and it had Marion MOFFAT as her mother, and William ROSS as her father, (my great great grandparents).
what I want to know is do you know if my Marion MOFFAT is the daughter of William MOFFAT born 1817, & his wife was Alison BROWN.
The info I have is that Marion was born Abt 1861 in New Zealand, and she was married to William ROSS on 11 Jan 1887 in Dunedin, then they had my great Grandmother Betsy Turnbull ROSS in 1897.Don't know any other siblings yet.Betsy later went on to marry William ISTEED in Gore in 1921.
Do we have the same family.
