Thank you for replying, I am finding Doris's birth certificate hard to find her birthday was 23 november1915 so it might be worth me getting the Doris Ward one . You have both given me lots regarding Francis and Ethel as I had really hit a brick wall with my grandmother Doris :-)

A late november birth may not appear till the quartley index the following year,now as then a 42 day or 6 weeks was given for registration and then sometimes it made it into the second quarter the following year,
So 1916 is worth a look.

both are agents.!both have different named wifes.and both married 7 years.!

Just curious - am I missing something?

Why pick on Doris Ward, rather than any of the many other Dorises registered in that quarter, with apparently unmarried mothers?

If it's because Ethel's ms was Ward, that 's only relevant if Ethel and Francis separated between 1911 and 1915, she reverted to her maiden surname, and then had a child by another man.
And if that was the case, why would Doris start calling herself Bennett later? Unless she was brought up by Francis - which seems unlikely if he wasn't her father and he was no longer with Ethel.

Anyway, both Julie and the Ancestry tree say Francis was Doris's father, by another relationship.
So it's most likely that her birth was registered in her mother's ms (as already suggested by RG) , which could be anything. Big coincidence if it was the same as Ethel's.

Doris was indeed ward birthdate 23/11/1915 her mother is down as Margaret Ward father unknown ,so I think Ellen and Francis must have taken Doris as their own ,maybe to already losing two children . :-)
