edward bates 1891-1945 halifax.Place of birth unknown,somewhere between sheffield and halifax.no known relatives before that time.

I have a Sarah Bates nee Priestley b1854 Halifax and her three Children George b1775, Clara b1778 and Mary H b1880 all in halifax in my tree.
Dont know if this is any help to you but hope so

Edward Bates died aged 54 Halifax vol 9a page 505, 2nd qtr 1945.
If you order the cert that should help you find out when he was born. You can order it online from The general registers office.

1901 census for 5, Barley Cross St., Halifax
Samuel Bates 41, born Woodhouse, Leeds
Jane Hannah Bates 39, born Halifax
Edward Bates 9, born Halifax
Edith May Bates 5, born Halifax

Samuel Bates married Jane Hannah Mitchell in 1890 in Halifax

When did Edward Bates marry and to whom. If you get his marriage cert it will have his fathers name and occupation. Then you can look for him on the 1901 census.

I dont think an England death cert gives a place of birth. It hasnt on any I have bought.
