Hi Lisa,

On FamilySearch.org:
Christening for John Kershaw 20 Jan 1839, Skipton In Craven, Yorkshire, England- Mother listed as Mary Kershaw, no name of Father.

On FreeBMD:
Births Mar 1839 (>99%)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kershaw John Skipton vol-23 page-565

You can order the birth certificate and that should hopefully help you get back further.
