My Grandmother Ethel Nora Lydon was born in the West Indies in 1884 2 October, her father was an Army Officer. We believe his name to be William Lydon. We do know that she later lived in Sussex, England and married Herbert Hamlyn Moxon. They moved to Australia after the first world war. I also know her Mother died in childbirth but she never spoke of a sibling or siblings. |

My wife Kate and her sister Shelagh are trying to find information on and locations of family on their fathers side.Their father John William Kerr died quite soon after they were born and their mother Monica did not pass on any information to them of their fathers family basically because she herself didn't know very much !.We know that he was born in India in 1904 and was the last child of Thomas Joseph Phillip Kerr and Catherine Kerr nee Egan. There were other children Margaret Agnes ,Bridget Theresa,Kathleen,Thomas Joseph Jnr who were born either in India or the Uk since Thomas Joseph Snr the father was in the British Army(Thomas Joseph Jnr was born in Kiltimagh 12.02.1902)Thomas Snr joined the Army in 1888 when he was 21 so he was born in 1867 ish---and his army papers say he lived in Kiltimagh on joining and his mother Bridget Lydon also lived there in 1888.We have no idea why she is noted as a Lydon and not a Kerr maybe she remarried after having Thomas Snr ?.Thomas Jnr being born in Kiltimagh(when Thomas Snr was in India -1902) indicates that he still had his mother and family in Kiltimagh in 1902 .Thomas Snr left the army in 1908 and returned to Kiltimagh/Mayo and there the story stops until Kate and Shelaghs mother Monica Francis Curran a teacher, marries John William Kerr(Bill) a teacher in 1945.He dies in 1952--leaving no trace of his family ! nothing. We have a couple of photos of him but nothing else. Do you have any leads on the Kerrs or Lydons in Kiltimagh/Mayo to fill some gaps ? |
