Trying to find Porter

I would like to find out more about my grandfather's father, William Porter, Born in Shouldham, Norfolk on 14th January 1854. I know he was an ag.lab. (as were many in that area) and that he married Emma, nee Grief on 30th October 1875. they had 6 children including my grandfather Fred, born 24th June 1892. I am also interested in my gradfather's time in the Met, where he served during WW2. I know he was living at Arbour Square when he met my grandmother. They married on 4th July 1921. On the marriage certificate his address is given as 74 Leman Street and his occupation as 'clerk', but on my mother's birth certificate - 19th August 1922 - they seem to be living at Leman St. police station and my grandfather's occupation was Police Sergeant - quite a rapid rise from a lowly clerk! If anyone can fill in the gaps, I'd be grateful. Hilary Porter
